Great Beach Reads

Imagine being in the picture above; sunshine warming your body, gentle breeze caressing your skin, rippling waves gently washing up on the sands of the beach while you are enjoying a good book.

In between chapters, perhaps a dip in the sea, a stroll down the beach in search of a perfect sea shell, a cold beer or other beverage. Aaahhh! Another perfect day. Maybe, even a short nap and then another dip in the sea and back to the pages of your book. What could be better than that?

I love books. I read every day. I read to learn new things, to entertain myself, to immerse myself in the beauty of ideas, the magic of stories, the thrill of exploring, the joy of learning.

My beach bar would have a whole special section devoted to books. Sailors and other travelers would be able to come in to trade in their already read books for someone else's already read books, browse through my collections, perhaps sit and read while enjoying a cold beer or chat with the bartender about their favorite books.

Books do much more than educate and entertain. They enable us to discover places and times unlimited by our own experiences and perspectives. They empower us to see beyond our horizons, to explore previously unknown worlds, to enter into the minds and hearts of people we'd never otherwise meet. Books are portals to a vaster universe. They also enable us to enter into our own greater potentiality.

People who cannot read books are to be pitied. The illiterate, and those who don't have access to books, live in a small, dark world with few possibilities to expand their horizons, to engage their imaginations or to self-actualize. And I agree with Mark Twain; people who are capable of reading books but don't do so have chosen to inhabit that same limited world.

If you are like me and love a good book, I have some suggestions for you: some books that I have read, enjoyed and think that you will too.

And, of course, the books I have written are also here for you. If you have any aspiration to have the freedom to be a professional beach bum or live any other lifestyle you desire, I believe that what I've written in my books can help you get there.
